Sat, 20 August 2005 Currently among the Messianic community there has been some buzz about a medieval document called the Shem Tob. This document is a Hebrew version of the book of Matthew. Until recently many did not hold Shem Tobs Matthew in high esteem. The text seems to differ in many ways in comparison to our Greek text of Matthew. Many have started to take another look at this document. There is a theory among some that Shem Tob a Jewish anti-missionary derived his text from the authentic Hebrew Matthew. We know from many historical texts that at some point there was a Hebrew version of Matthew but can we accept the Shem Tob as authoritative?
